Plant prosperity this Lunar New Year with Flo’s plantable red packets

Flo Energy today revealed its plantable red packets to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year. Flo’s red packets are adorned with traditional mandarin oranges that symbolise fortune and leaves to symbolise its plantable nature. The packets can be inserted into a pot and watered to sprout into vegetables.
Flo’s red packets are biodegradable and made from recycled paper mixed with vegetable seeds. The limited red packet designs vary with three traditional New Year wishes emblazoned on the front: ‘Happy New Year / 新年快乐’, ‘Great luck, great profit / 大吉大利’, and ‘Wishing you prosperity and wealth / 恭喜发财’. Instructions on how to plant the packets are printed on the back via QR code.
According to Hong Kong environmental group Greeners Action, more than 320 million red packets are handed out annually in the country, equivalent to 16,300 trees. “At Flo, we reduce our paper usage as much as possible, so we wanted to find a way to honour the tradition of Lunar New Year while staying true to our mission,” said Flo CCO Ernst Westendorp.
“While recycling red packets is also a great way to help the environment, we thought it would be nice to create something ‘renewable’ that could grow into something useful for our customers.”
