Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) are green energy attributes that represent units of electricity generated from a renewable energy generator. RECs allow you to claim the ownership and usage of a specific unit of renewable electricity.

Flo purchases RECs from renewable generators in the region through Evident, the global registry for I-REC. The Evident Registry provides a fully auditable chain of custody record to support the trading of energy attribute certificates and uniquely verifiable claims of ownership by end-users.

I-REC, also known as the International REC Standard is a well-established REC standard for markets outside of North America & Europe with a presence in over 30 countries. The I-REC Standard is acknowledged by major reporting frameworks such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP), CDP, and RE100 as a reliable backbone for credible and auditable tracking instruments.

All electricity that’s generated from the generator travels through the grid. The grid connects the generators and the buildings that consume electricity. There is no way to distinguish electricity from renewable sources such as solar, wind, and hydro from their non-renewable counterpart.

Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) are used to address this issue. By purchasing and redeeming RECs, you are able to verify and certify that you consume renewable electricity.

You can also use it for compliance reasons and certifications. REC is recognised by many certification bodies worldwide, such as RE100, BREEAM, LEED, or Singapore’s very own BCA Green Mark, and many more. You can use RECs to attain credits towards a certain certification.

We will our RECs redemption every quarter via email. If your consumption in a particular quarter is lower than 1 megawatt-hour (1 MWh), you will not receive any RECs for that quarter.

But don't worry, the balance will be carried over to the next quarter.

By using RECs, you are consuming renewable electricity that does not generate any carbon emission, lowering your carbon footprint.
